Outreach - Opportunities and Events
Adverts for opportunities for outreach work in the field will be uploaded in this section as soon as they arise.
If you are aware of any outreach opportunities we welcome you to contact us with details on the project. Please provide details on location, approximate number of volunteers required and the timing of the project (when the ideal start date is and for how long the mission would be). Details relating to the scope/need of the project and who would be trained is also required (200 words).
Dear BSPR members,
We wished to update you on one upcoming overseas opportunity and two UK-based events you may be interesting to participate in:
1) We have been emailed by Professor Than Than Sint who is the President of the Myanmar Radiology Society (MRS) and the Professor and Head of the Radiology Department at the University of Medicine in Myanmar. We have been collaborating with Professor Sint and her team with regards to a BSPR Outreach Group overseas outreach activity which is due to happen in the coming days - this has been lead and organised by Dr Shyam Mohan who has organised a fantastic programme for this activity - more details on this activity will follow upon his return. Professor Sint has now emailed to announce that the 15th MRS Meeting is due to be held on the16th - 18th November 2017. She has invited one BSPR paediatric radiologist to attend this meeting and to speak at the meeting - 3 lectures in 3 days is what the requirement for the interested paediatric radiologist is. Professor Sint is quite flexible re the choice of topics for these lectures however we know that Yankin Children's Hospital - the only only paediatric hospital in Myanmar - has recently acquired a 3T MRI scanner with radiology education relating to MRI high on their agenda. This broad topic will be the focus of Shyam's outreach activity, however this may be an area the speaker may wish to also concentrate on - collaboration with Shyam following his visit would be beneficial. Professor Sint is kindly offering to organise accommodation and local transport for the speaker on behalf of the MRS. Therefore funding for flights and sustenance is what we'd need to find funding for. As always Sav and myself would be happy to help you navigate the various bursary options available for us to tap into. Expressions of interest are welcomed at the earliest due to the short notice of this opportunity.
2) We have received the flyer for this year's annual THET conference which is due to be held at the usual venue at the Resource for London in London on the 23rd - 25th of October 2017. Below is a paragraph from the advert for this event.
'This year the conference will explore the contributions the UK is making to global health, featuring over 70 speakers representing a broad spectrum of backgrounds in global health and development. The event is designed to enhance knowledge transfer between experts and participants, as well as to promote collaborative learning. Whilst health partnerships remain the lens through which we observe the development world, in 2017 we take a broader look at the challenges we are facing in global health and how the NHS is responding.'
More details can be found by following this link https://www.thetconference.org/
3) We wished to remind you that places to attend the BSPR Outreach Group Study day due to be held at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool on Wednesday the 19th of July 2017 are still available. We have once again attached the advert and draft programme for this event to this email. Please circulate news about this event to your teams and juniors who may be interested in joining us on the day.
Outreach Mission Report – exploratory mission fostering international collaboration in paediatric imaging outreach and blazing a trail in South Africa, by Savvas Andronikou.
This report outlines a self-initiated paediatric radiology outreach mission to South Africa in March 2017, with the primary goals of fostering outreach collaboration between the British Society of paediatric radiology (BSPR) outreach group and the South African Society of Paediatric Imaging (SASPI) and of setting precedents in paediatric imaging outreach opportunities in South Africa.
